Spoilers Alert
I have not finished this book. I am half way through and the plot still has not started to grip yet.
I got caught in his The Night's Dawn trilogy a few years ago, I remember it chiefly for the amazingly unsatisfactory explanation for his main plot mechanism, which was the possession of living human beings bodies by the spirits of the dead. Leaving that aside it certainly drove along with a large caste. I read it at the time of the 2008 Mumbai Massacre where apparently drugged out gun men stalked the corridors of luxury hotels killing any one they meet. This was being eerily echoed in the novels.
